threading the branches of their relationship

joonmyun had learned at a young age, that balancing being a half-blood was hard. on one hand, you had a mother who didn't understand almost anything about the magical world, and on the other you had a father who didn't understand almost anything about the magical world. joonmyun felt like he was a translator between the two of them. often helping his father with the cellphone that his mother had gotten him so that they could communicate when they were apart. often helping his mother work with owls (though she was terrified of the creatures). but it worked. it always worked with their family, and they were a happy family.

he didn't think it was anything special to be a half blood, until he met lu han. they happened to ride together in the same cart on joonmyun's very first trip to hogwarts. when he caught sight of joomyun's cell phone—an iPhone, he went particularly crazy. he had never seen anyone other than minseok (a person whom he claimed was his best friend) use one. when he gave the phone to lu han and let him use it, lu han decided that joonmyun was his number two best friend ("because no one can replace minseok"). joonmyun wasn't going to complain—he had already made a 'best friend", and the school year hadn't started yet.

he learned a lot about lu han (and minseok) during his first train ride to hog wards. that lu han was a second year, and a gryffindor. he learned that lu han positively loved muggle stuff and said that he couldn't wait until he could take muggle studies. but now he had two muggle friends (joonmyun tried to clarify that he was only half-breed), and that it would be just like taking muggle studies.

their conversation (mostly lu han talking at joonmyun) was interrupted when the cart door slid open, and a round-faced boy entered.

"there you are…i've been looking all over for you." the boy poke, his hair red, and he looked slightly displeased with lu han.

"minseok!" lu han's excited look and the way he literally pulled the male into the cart, forcing him to sit down, showed that this was lu han's "best friend", minseok.

joonmyun watched the way the two of them fussed at each other. minseok tried to explain to lu han that could not force an owl to fly into the middle of seoul, because a big city is not the place that an owl belongs.

"no, but you don't understand, joonmyun said that they use owls in his house all the time!" lu han tried to argue with minseok.

"joonmyun?" looking across, he caught sight of the first year who was sitting there, watching minseok and lu han bicker.

"joonmyun, he's a half muggle, half wizard." well, joonmyun didn't need to introduce himself because lu han already had that covered. minseok caught something sparkling in lu han's eye when he said the first year's name, but he didn't say anything.

"joonmyun, joonmyun!" it had been a week nice joonmyun had last seen lu han. they got separated when joonmyun had to follow all of the first years, to be sorted. he had been sorted into hufflepuff, which at first, he had been upset about, but now—a week into his first year, he didn't care. he found out that hufflepuff dorm was closest to the kitchen, and one really nice fifth year would sneak all of the first years snacks at night.

"hey, hyung." joonmyun said, giving lu han a wide smile. the smile grew even wider when he felt lu han drape his arm around his shoulder.

"how are you enjoying it so far? is it anything like muggle school?" lu han asked as he lead joonmyun through the hallway. joonmyun wasn't exactly sure where the other was taking him, but he allowed him to do so for now.

"it's really different…i like it so far, it's a good change up from normal school, so i'm not going to complain." joonmyun said. something about the feeling of lu han's arm around his shoulders felt comfortable.

"well, i'm glad you like it." lu han turned down the hall, taking joonmyun down the hallway, towards an empty classroom.

"…where are we going?" joonmyun asked as lu han lead him into a classroom. joonmyun had class, and he didn't want to skip it—especially since he had only been at school for a week.

"you're going to teach me." lu han said as he opened his bag, dropping dusty library books onto the table in the classroom.

"teach you what?"

"teach me about muggles."
