crouching behind a mound of rocks leading to hoenn city were an unstoppable pair, driven by the desire to capture what they believed to be the rarest pokemon on the planet and armed with binoculars: team rocket.

“wake up, you little shit,” baekhyun jabbs an arm into his partner’s ribs. chen jumps awake, lost his balance, and lands on their meowth.

“meowth ow!” tao screeches. “you’re gonna crumple my new leopard print t-shirt, meowth!”

“sorry,” chen straightens himself, then grabs baekhyun’s binoculars to see what the fuss was about. there’s a little squabble as baekhyun refuses to give it up, yelling at chen to go get his own pair, but chen finally wins, rolling on top of baekhyun and peering over the rocks to see who’s coming.

“i see him,” every nerve in his body thrums with anticipation. “and his pikachu.” he drops the binoculars onto baekhyun’s lap and rubs his hands with glee. “soon, we’ll be the most unstoppable thunder masters on this planet!”

“meowth, that’s right!” tao echoes, pumping his fist into the air.

two pairs of eyes narrows at the tiny cat. tao shrinks a little into himself.

“that was the wrong timing, wasn’t it, meowth?” his ears flop a little.

chen pats him on the head. “it’s okay, you’re cute so i’ll forgive you this time.”

kris comes into view, his trusty pikachu perched on his wide shoulders and his good friend luhan hopping by his side. they’re completely oblivious to everything around them, so baekhyun and chen decide that it’s high time for them to strike.

baekhyun jumps out of the bushes first, taking his place in the middle of the road, back facing kris and gang. chen slides out a split second later, rose poised on his fingertips.

“oh fuck,” kris mutters under his breath. his large hands fumble in the tiny pouch around his waist, searching for his charmander, but he was too late.

“prepare for trouble,” baekhyun begins, turning to face them.

“and make it double!” chen chimes in.

“to protect the world from devastation!”


“to unite all people within our nation!”

luhan jabs kris in the ribs, “kris, hurry up.”

“to denounce the evil of truth and love–”

“to extend our reach to the stars above!”

where was that fucking master ball?

“baekhyun!”

“chen!”

screw this shit, kris thinks to himself, pulling out a random pokeball. he tosses it, praying hard that it’s at least his lotad. there is a bright light.

“team rocket–” baekhyun bends down to squint at the pokemon kris had just thrown. “a caterpie. how cute.”

chen lets out an obnoxious laugh. “he thinks he can beat us with a caterpie.”

“meowth that’s right!” tao chimes in, fist in the air. baekhyun and chen turn to stare at him again, and kris takes the opportunity to attack.

“pikachu, thunderbolt!” he cries. pikachu jumps up from his shoulder and shoots a jolt at them, and they fly off into the air.

“team rocket’s blasting off agaaaaaaaain!” their voices fade into the distance and their bodies disappear until they’re merely a twinkling star in the afternoon sky.

luhan squints at the sky. “you’re getting better at this.”

“i’ve had some practice,” kris says, keeping his caterpie and patting his pikachu on the shoulder.

they continue walking to hoenn city.
