“Twelve years. I mean wow, that’s-”

“Hyung, we’ve talked about this.”

“--actually fantastic.” Baekhyun grins at the taller boy (man? It’s been fourteen years since Zitao is seventeen). It’s so nice to be here like this, the two of them lazing around in the sunset with no schedule and nothing to worry about. The carpeted floor is warm as they lie together.

“It is amazing, isn’t it?” Zitao turns to his side and indulges him with a soft smile. Maybe it’s the filtering sunlight, maybe it’s cozy, warm feeling in his underbelly, but Baekhyun is suddenly overwhelmed with a wave of nostalgia. Zitao giggles when Baekhyun playfully tickles him. “I though we’re going to disband when that scandal erupted. But here we are. Who would’ve thought that we could last that long.”

Yeah, indeed. He’s still weirded out at the fact that EXO managed to get through that many years together. But they did. And it’s sort of amazing. “Hey, I’m still here.” Baekhyun says in a solemn, thoughtful voice, “But I don’t know Zitao. I keep thinking that when this whole stupid idol business thing is over, things will get better. Yeah, we'll all be happy then.”

Zitao actually frowns at his words. "Hyung, you can go ahead and expect happiness, if that's what you want to do. But, just be sure that you're not so busy expecting, that you miss it if it shows up."

“Oh,” Baekhyun laughs and Zitao’s scoots a little closer. “I know all about it. Didn’t they say that happiness is like a butterfly?”

“Happiness, I think,” Zitao replies, “is more often a journey than a destination. If you spend all your time looking for it, waiting to experience it, you probably never will. It’s something that you need to pursue, to strive for. And if you do it for yourself, you are more likely to grab it when it floats by.”

“Philosopher Zitao,” Baekhyun smiles. “Who could’ve guess?”

Zitao beams, obviously pleased at the compliment. But then Baekhyun once again looks thoughtful. After about a minute, he grins, then grabs the collar of Zitao’s shirt and kisses him full on the mouth.

By the time Zitao is recovering from his blush, Baekhyun cannot help but to steal another peck. “I got short arms. Figured I'd better reach fast.”
