have to break it up bc character count

---

The sun catches on the top of the ocean like a blinding jewel, dazzling and almost too harsh to look at. It's like a second source of light on the horizon, and Zitao races towards it at unmatchable speeds, a playful grin on his lips. His horse phases through time with ease, only skipping seconds to make the trip go by faster, black mane flying as wildly as Zitao's own stark white hair, crazy and windswept. He tightens his hands on the reigns of Cosmos as the grass turns to sand, and soon the sound of crashing waves mixes with the rush of the wind. Once he's close enough, Zitao leaps from Cosmos' back, leaving the horse to rear and whinny in place, though the beast waits obediently.

Zitao's toes dig into hot sand, always barefoot, as he rushes right to the edge, waiting until his toes dip into the water to stop. The sun beats down against his tanned skin, warming him to the bone and he rummages in his pack before pulling out a small conch. Bringing the shell to his lips, he takes a deep breath and sounds out across the waters.

As the echo of his shell dies out, the wind seemingly dies down, and where once there were waves, the water grows eerily calm. Zitao sees the ripple before the surface is ever broken. He doesn't wait, shedding his satchel, he runs into the water, diving towards the ripple in a perfect arch. His body cuts through the water like a knife, cold silence surrounding him from every angle. With a few strokes, he opens his eyes and twists around to peer up at the surface. The sun creates a perfect silhouette against the merman's body, but nothing compares to that bright smile in the crystal waters. Zitao laughs without thinking, air escaping him immediately. Strong arms wrap around his waist and jerk him upwards, speeding the short distance towards the top of the water.

They break with a loud splash, Zitao coughing slightly, though the noise soon turns into laughter from both parties, splashing between them.

"Did you forget only one of us can breathe underwater?!" Joonmyun laughs, arms still wound tight around Zitao's waist, holding him afloat with a soft, steady flick of his tail.

"I couldn't help it...Your dorky smile was just too much," Zitao purrs back in response, soft on his S's and speech slow like he has all the time in the world. And in a way, he does.

Joonmyun rolls his bright blue eyes, blonde hair dripping as it frames his perfect cheekbones. Zitao leans in to brush his nose against his jaw, the scales dusting there rough against his skin. "It's been far too long..." Joonmyun agrees with Zitao with a soft nod of his head, voice teasing as he swims them both closer towards the shore.

"I'd begun to think you'd forgotten me, son of time," he murmurs playfully, and Zitao is quick to pinch a gill, wrinkling his nose.

"I never forget."

"Of course, of course." Joonmyun's laughter is sweet. "We're wasting time."

Zitao laughs, because the thought of him, Son of Cronus, wasting time, is hilarious. Without another word, Zitao and Joonmyun swim the short distance back to shore, and once Zitao's feet touch the warm sand, he turns to scoop strong arms beneath Joonmyun. With an arm bracing his back and another hooking beneath his strong tail, he hoists the merman from the water, making a playful grunt as he does so.

"You've been eating too much shellfish. It goes straight to your tail," he teases, and Joonmyun is quick to bop him gently atop wild ivory hair, a grimace on his features. The sun catches on his scales, and Zitao admires the way they glimmer, gold and blue, shining as bright as the royal necklace dangling against his bare chest.

Calling for Cosmos, he gestures for Joonmyun to hold onto his neck, keeping one arm beneath his tail, but using the one at his back to grab onto the horse's reigns. With unmatchable strength, he pulls them both upwards, settling into the saddle and making sure Joonmyun is comfortable in his lap. With a soft smile, he runs a hand down the front of the other's tail, patting the damp flesh gently. "Ready?"

"This part is so uncomfortable," Joonmyun laughs in response, but wraps his arms tighter around Zitao, settling his cheek against the other's shoulder.

The air around them almost seems to crackle as an energy ripples within the atmosphere. The sounds of the waves, the ocean breeze blowing past -- it all stops. Everything seems to freeze in time around them, though Cosmos' mane continues to ripple, without any source of wind. Making sure the water droplets collected atop Joonmyun's scales is secure in place, Zitao places a swift kiss to his cheek and reaches around him to grab the reigns, rearing Cosmos up and around to head back the way he'd come.

They don't travel for long, and the sun is still high in the sky by the time the cave in the mountainside becomes visible. Scaling the hill leading to its entrance, Zitao nods quietly, listening along to Joonmyun speak idly of the ongoings beneath the waters in Poseidon's kingdom.

"--my mother was talking about you, by the way," he muses, perking up as they enter the mouth of the cave. When Cosmos can go no further, they disembark carefully, Zitao once more taking the other into his arms, carrying him on foot.

"Amphitrite? Good things, I hope." Zitao grins, knowing good and well that the mistress of the sea favors him particularly.

"Well, if you consider her finding you devilishly handsome good things, then I don't quite understand why I'm here," Joonmyun jokes, though he has been mildly annoyed by his mother's tendency to eye landdwellers over the plenty of fish in her sea.

"Definitely a good thing." Joonmyun snorts, and as the cave begins to open back up, Zitao drops the hold on time around them.

"Ah, I'm parched," Joonmyun complains quietly, and though it's half-hearted, Zitao's pace quickens a bit as he nears the large pool before them. Seemingly lit from somewhere deep within, the pure waters steam and glisten against the walls like crystal, casting prisms upon every surface. Moving to the edge, Zitao crouches down and gingerly eases Joonmyun into the water.

Turning from the son of time, Joonmyun scrunches up his nose and dives, tail flicking a large splash towards the other as he disappears from view, and though the water is crystal-clear, Zitao is too busy wiping his face to see, protesting loudly.

"Is that necessary?!"

Joonmyun breaks the surface again with a laugh a moment later. "You're going to get wet eventually...Your clothes will dry."

Zitao rolls his eyes, standing up again to wriggle from his satchel once more, though this time he stands back to undo the ties of his pants. Joonmyun swims to the edge of the spring, propping himself against the rock to admire the sculpture of a demigod as he steps from his clothing. Zitao is built perfectly, practically carved from marble, with tan skin and deep lines emblazoning every muscle.

"Remind me to send my thanks to your mother again," Zitao starts, amused at the way Joonmyun groans and pushes away from the wall, making his way towards the middle of the pool to dip silently into the water again, breaking a moment later to push his hair back from his face.

"Can we not speak of my mother in here?" Joonmyun's laughter mixes with Zitao's as the other carefully climbs into the pool. As soon as he does, the water tingles, and with both of them inside, it begins to glow.

"But she's the reason this is here. The reason we have this place," Zitao starts, moving towards the other. As he cuts through the water, Joonmyun playfully moves backwards, little by little. The water glows brighter as they near each other, and the tingling intensifies, a soft thrum of energy fizzling through the air, much like on their trip to the underground spring previously.

"It's such a mood killer, though," Joonmyun whispers, chuckling, his back connecting with the other side of the rock, lower lip catching between his teeth. Zitao stills like a shark in the water, eyeing the other with a smirk.

"Nothing can kill my mood, Joonmyun~." Zitao's words come out in a purr and Joonmyun can feel his gills flare in excitement, pinned like a helpless fish beneath that stare. It gets him; it's always got him. And it's definitely got him right now.

With a sudden movement, Zitao closes the distance between them, going in for the kill, and their mouths crash together firmly. The water begins to bubble, hot and nearly unbearable as Joonmyun gasps loudly into the demigod's mouth, and Zitao's strong hands wrap around his small waist to keep him afloat as the magic within the waters does its job.

He can feel the way Joonmyun's rough scales begin to smooth and lie flat, muscles molding and bones shifting, and the other's eyes glow brighter blue than usual, as if he's lit from within. The steam rising from the surface smells of salt, and Zitao whispers gentle words of encouragement into the young blonde prince's ear, holding him tight and close, even when his tail splits, and two short, smooth, pale legs remain. As the bubbling begins to slow, Joonmyun's eyes begin to darken, and though his gills and the scales along the edges remain, they flatten against his skin, unmoving. He takes a shakey breath and slumps into Zitao, suddenly unable to keep himself afloat.

They stay there, in each other's arms like that for longer than they need to, beyond the point when Joonmyun finally calms down, or when he even starts to move his newly acquired legs about in the water, helping keep them above water. They stay and enjoy each other's presence, the way they can tangle in each other again, Zitao littering soft kisses against the scaley skin of his shoulder.

"It's been far too long.." Zitao reiterates, and his hands slide down, smoothing over the curve of Joonmyun's ass, down between his thighs to pull his legs apart, guiding them around his own waist. Joonmyun laughs, breathy, and pushes Zitao's hair from his face.

"Once every season..."

Words soon become pointless between them as Zitao leans in to capture Joonmyun's mouth with his own, and a hunger lights between them, devouring each other as if pulling their soul straight from their kiss. Hands soon begin to wander on both ends, and Joonmyun drops his legs to push Zitao back against the wall, pinning him in his arms. Breaking their kiss, their pants echo between them, breath hard to catch and hearts racing, bodies practically aching with the pull between them. The need to be together, to touch, to feel, to be one wherein they spend so much time apart that sometimes Joonmyun has to think harder than he should to remember the color of Zitao's eyes on summer days.

Zitao brings his hands up to slide over Joonmyun's chest, along his shoulders, the sides of his neck, and finally to cup his cheeks, breathing out into the other and sealing another kiss. It's like fire between them, the way Joonmyun's lips burn hotter than liquid fire against his own, eyes almost shut as he swallows the other away into his addiction, unable to satisfy and unable to stop.

Even when you have an eternity, only being with someone four times in a year is nearly unbearable. Zitao stops by as often as he can to talk or to swim, but Joonmyun is chained to the sea, and Amphitrite can only do so much beneath Poseidon's nose. Though his mother is a lover of love, Poseidon is not. Nor is Joonmyun in much of his favor, as the son of a sailor, but he is still expected to uphold a royal image.

They touch like they'll never touch again, and sometimes, Zitao is afraid they won't. Though neither age, and neither have any fear of the end of their lives any time soon, Zitao still worries what will come when the politics of Gods and Goddesses is never a predictable one. For now, they keep their meetings secret, though the affair between the Son of Cronus and Poseidon's Wavecaller is in itself commonly known knowledge.

The rocks dig into Zitao's back, and yet he hardly cares, eyes rolling shut as a breathy groan escapes his lips, Joonmyun's deft fingers slipping between them to wrap around the taller boy's hardening cock, wasting no time despite having time literally at his fingertips. Grabbing onto the edge of the rocks, he hooks a foot clumsily against the wall until he can find somewhere to prop himself, keeping himself in pace as he pulls and teases, the tingling ofthe water adding to the sensation.

"Joonmyun, don't tease so much..." Zitao whispers out breathily as the other begins to mouth at the expanse of broad, tan shoulders, sharp teeth trailing along his pulse. Joonmyun merely chuckles, the tips of his blonde hair hiding his bright blue eyes from view, leaving Zitao to let his head fall back, cracking slightly against the rock. It'll bruise later, but now, he hardly cares.

Slowly, Joonmyun drags his hand up from Zitao's cock, earning a small whine from the other, running his palm flat against his stomach, mapping him out to remember for the long days ahead. Summer days are longer and it feels as if it takes far too long for Zitao to come home. The younger demigod arches forward, whining again, and Joonmyun laughs, pushing him back against the rock.

"So impatient...What a bad mannerism to have." Zitao growls slightly, but his lips form a pout, hands reaching out to roam down his back instead. Joonmyun presses close, takes a slow breath and inhales the scent of the other.

In time, they start to rut slowly, passionately, and soon enough, a steady rhythm builds between them, Zitao's strong hands digging into the pale clefts of Joonmyun's ass, holding him above just a bit so he can stare up into those blue eyes. They lose him in their glimmering pools, so much deeper than the furthest depths of Poseidon's kingdom. Zitao started falling the day he met him and has yet to stop.

When Zitao can't take it anymore, he pushes the other away, takes Joonmyun by the wrist, and swims off to the left, dragging a laughing demigod behind him. Soon, they find a ledge and Zitao is quick to pull Joonmyun in, pushing him back until he can crawl over the other's waist, a hand twisting in the back of his platinum locks. He meets him in a heavy kiss, all teeth and tongue as he licks him out from the inside, traces every nook and cranny and takes over, marks his territory, reminds Joonmyun that he is his. He tastes of sea and sun, and Zitao is pathetically addicted.

Joonmyun settles his hands against the other's thighs, squeezing at strong, chiseled muscles and rolls his hips up, biting his lip at the sight of the demigod before him. He's everything to Joonmyun, the moon and the stars that pull his tide in and out. They're intertwined, an ocean frozen in time, and Joonmyun wishes they could never leave this place.

Rutting down into the other, the water splashes around them slightly, and the way the lights from within the pool hit Joonmyun's face, Zitao feels his gut wrench, adoration as heavy as the bile in his stomach, burning into his core, and he can't take it any longer. Dropping one hand into the water, he takes Joonmyun's neglected arousal in his hand and holds him steady, earning a soft sputter from the pale boy beneath him.

"Why're you in a rush! I haven't even -- oh Gods." Joonmyun chokes on his words, eyes rolling back as the other sinks onto him slowly, and Zitao's whines echo against the empty cave walls, amplified and torturing Joonmyun's brain. He's so tight, unbearably, and even hotter than the water. Zitao's eyebrows knit together, and he's panting like it doesn't hurt at all, which Joonmyun knows isn't the case. But Zitao revels in it, loving the way the pain sears through him -- for an immortal, it makes him feel alive. Truly alive. Love and Pain, two thresholds normally beyond his reach and yet currently in the palms of his hands.

"Too long," Zitao whines, nestling down, knees uncomfortable as they press into jagged rocks, but the way Joonmyun fills him up makes everything worth it. He has no cares in the world, leaning back to set his hands on the other's thighs. "Move." His voice comes out in a desperate whisper, and though Joonmyun is still mildly concerned, he can't deny the other's wishes, and the pleasure within Zitao's body is far too much to hold back.

It doesn't take much to get them going, and within minutes, Zitao is moving beautifully, as fluid as Joonmyun in the ocean, hips rolling with practiced ease and thighs burning as he works himself up and down again, nails digging into the other's thighs. Joonmyun runs a hand up the flat plane of his stomach, up to his chest, smearing the water along tan skin until it's glistening perfectly in the reflections of the water. The steam around them billows with each pant and their moans soon echo off the walls, creating a reverbration like a chorus, praying to the Gods for their salvation from each other.

When Joonmyun has enough sanity to think clearly, even for a moment, he drops a hand to grab at Zitao's cock, pulling to the other's movements, and Zitao's voice hitches an octave higher, whines turning into pleas for harder, harder, Joonmyun before soon, Joonmyun's digging his heels into the rocks to meet Zitao roughly, slamming upwards. The water is a loud mess around them, and Joonmyun just tries to keep it out of his nose as he bores holes into the other's eyes, locking their gazes. There's electricity in their eyes, heat in their bodies, and he never wants to look away. He could spend his life seeing nothing but Zitao.

They hit release together, Zitao's clawing helplessly at flesh, the rocks, the water, trying anything to find purchase, and Joonmyun hissing out beneath him. It feels like a weight off their chests, and though the time for rest is short between them, they tangle together for hours. Joonmyun loses count and Zitao's powers rage, water freezing in perfectly sculpted arcs and wild splashes around them, until soon it's practically raining from the way he freezes and unfreezes everything.

When neither can move anymore and they lay in a heaped mess on the shallow end of the pool, Zitao curls up close atop the other's chest, still panting. Joonmyun drops his softening gaze to the other, pushing a hand slowly through white hair, admiring the flushed cheeks and droopy eyes.

"My little baby," Joonmyun whispers fondly, pinching a full cheek and earning a soft glare in response.

"I am older than time, you know," Zitao huffs.

"No, your father is. You are merely born of time," he continues to tease, leaning down to kiss the other's forehead. "I have seen days when all of the world was Sea; you are but a baby to me." Zitao snorts and closes his eyes, relishing in the affection from the other. He knows their time is coming to an end -- can feel the sun beginning to rise in his bones. He can't stop time forever, and at his level of exhaustion, an extra fifteen minutes is about all he could manage.

They rest in silence for the remaining time, until the nagging pulls at the back of Zitao's mind and the water begins to grow cold for the first time. Joonmyun pulls him closer, burying his nose in Zitao's hair, fingers tangling as he clutches. Zitao sits up, wraps Joonmyun up tight in his arms, and falls backwards with a soft splash. They submerge into ice water as the last of their minutes pass, and the water bubbles violently around them. Even with his eyes closed, Zitao can see the bright cascade of light as Joonmyun writhes in his hold. When his legs seal together once more, Zitao feels his heart break as it always tends to, every time they part.

Joonmyun's voice whispers loud and clear, echoing against the waters as clearly as if they were above the water.

"Shhh...Don't cry, Zitao," he whispers, strong hands rubbing down his back, sliding up to wipe at Zitao's face despite the fact that the boy's tears are invisible beneath the water. When Zitao's lungs begin to burn with a need for oxygen, Joonmyun seals their mouths in a kiss and swims upwards with a powerful flick of his tail.

They break the surface loudly, and the lights within the pool seem to dim, almost extinguishing, leaving the cave dark and uninviting around them. Zitao shivers slightly as they break, and presses his forehead to Joonmyun's, eyes still closed.

"Look at me, little time weaver.." Zitao cracks open his eyes despite the tears still burning at the corners. He meets Joonmyun's vivid blue irises and melts whether he likes it or not. "Fall is coming. It won't be long...Let's head back, okay?"

Always the voice of reason, Zitao nods softly, stealing a kiss, and another, as Joonmyun slowly guides them back to the edge of the water. Zitao begrudgingly climbs out first, pulling his clothes on, the fabrics sticking to his wet frame before he turns around and crouches down, offering his arms to Joonmyun. The elder hooks his arms around his neck and Zitao presses another kiss as he pulls him up and out, the merman's tail flicking instinctively outside of the water.

Hooking his arms around him, he makes his way back out of the cave, back to Cosmos, and back to the break of morning light. The ride back to the shore is quiet, and Joonmyun spends all of it buried in the crook of Zitao's neck, taking in his scent and willing for time to slow down just a little bit more; to give him one more minute, one more second, one more kiss.

Zitao's pretty sure the trip back is shorter than the trip to the cave, because soon the ocean is on the horizon, and he wills Cosmos to go slower. As they reach the edge of the waters, the sun is fully risen, brightening the land and blinding against the water. Joonmyun pulls from Zitao's shoulder, giving the other a soft smile, eyes sad.

"You'll visit soon, right?"

"Of course; how could I not?" Zitao feels like crying again, but Joonmyun gives him a knowing look, leaning in to brush his lips against the corners of his eyes. No more crying. Not in each other's company. With a heavy sigh, Zitao slides carefully from his steed, carrying Joonmyun into the water until he's waist deep and Joonmyun's tail is splashing softly on the water, the instinctual urge to move, to swim, coursing through his limbs. One last kiss before he lets go, and Joonmyun settles back into the water, twisting to dive down with a splash. He surfaces again a few feet away, offering Zitao a loving smile.

"Speed time up a little, will you?" He teases, pulling a gold-gilded conch from the waters as he watches the other. Zitao snorts, a soft giggle escaping before he nods.

"You got it."

"I'll miss you."

"Forbbiden words!" Zitao whines, stamping his foot in the water. Joonmyun laughs and shakes his head before sighing. Zitao blows him a kiss and the scales around his ears redden slightly before returning to a shimmering gold color. Bringing the conch to his lips, he takes a deep breath before blowing out, loud and long. The sea comes to life around him, waves shifting and currents forming out of nowhere, picking up around them. Zitao hurries from the water, stumbling onto the sand and turning around to wave, wildly.

With a wave forming behind him, Joonmyun waves as well, and the silent goodbyes between them ring loud in their hearts before Joonmyun twists around and dives into the wave, melting into the water and disappearing with Zitao's heart.

i'm a mess right now sobs i don't know how to feel, i want to leave a better comment though because wow

i can see you worked a lot on this, it's so good. im so happy you gave us something like this, thank you
also i love greek mythology although i know little of it and i love how you incorporated their exo powers with it too ;~; merman suho and time child hzt sigh *_* and their physical descriptions were so dreamy too
their love story felt like i was reading a real greek tragedy love story. i could believe in this myth too, it's has that double edginess to it that makes it believable
all the magic and pool and the bubbles and suho getting human legs but only once per season ;; i cant even express myself properly but i loved this part because it really makes your heart torn
your characterization of both of them was a+ too (at least for me) i loved every bit of their interactions too, so sweet

there's probably a lot more you put into this and i'm probably not getting but i'm sure i'll read this again so hopefully i can get all the references then

also go team chenshine, go team a!
