On Monday, Baekhyun is hung over and late for his 8am class on Comparative Law. He misses the 7:45am bus to get on campus from his apartment. The minute he walks out of the apartment, the clouds above him converge and of course, of fucking course it begins to rain.

Baekhyun isn’t a runner and he’s not much of one even more so considering the laptop beneath his arms and the pounds upon pounds of textbooks on his back. The rain is heavy, pouring out of the skies like a hose and Baekhyun realizes that he would rather ditch class than drown.

Sure enough when he pulls out his phone, there’s an alert for a flash flood warning for the entire city. Fuck it. It’s only Monday and Baekhyun sort of wants to curse his luck and the rain and everything else wrong in his life.

He dashes inside the nearest establishment and to his luck it’s a coffeeshop. Truthfully the nearest building is actually the post office, but who in the world in their rightful mind would spend time in there? He runs, or rather swims past the post office and yanks open the door to the coffee shop.
There’s a torrent of water that rushes in along with him and Baekhyun thinks of those movie scenes where a fish tank bursts open. He slips on the floor, completing the dying fish look and flops onto his sigh with a heave. Outside of the blaring rain, Baekhyun blinks raindrops out of his eyes and is glad to see that the small, modest coffee shop is mostly empty. It’s a small consolation if nothing else and Baekhyun sits up right, shaking water out of his ear when a waitress emerges from behind the counter.

Upon second glance, she had been behind the counter all this time, but given her lack of height, not that Baekhyun is one to judge, she had been completely out of sight.

“Ummm,” she says slowly and Baekhyun feels his ears heat up. He straightens up, rising to his feet. The counter is pretty high up and Baekhyun realises with a start that the barista is standing on a small step in order to even reach the register.

God that’s fucking cute. He doesn’t say it outloud, but the words must have expressed themselves on his face because the cute, tiny barista shoots him a judging look. If Byun Baekhyun were a lesser man he would have cowered into the corner or at least excused himself for looking like a half-drowned rat, but since he’s mother fucking Byun Baekhyun he just smiles and shoots her a wave.

“It’s a nice day out, isn’t it?” he pipes up and the stoic expression on the barista’s face slips a little. The corners of her mouth quirk up a little, betraying her frown.

“Clearly,” she says, sweeping out an arm and Baekhyun sees, for the first time, the mess he’s made on the floor. He doesn’t recall wallowing in mud, but for some reason the neat tidy tiling is covered in it and his pants are a suspicious brown color as well.

“It’s good for my skin,” Baekhyun shoots back shamelessly. He walks over to the counter and grabs a handful of napkins. They’re a nice quality and Baekhyun swipes the handful over his waterlogged hair. When he removes the napkins, there’s a handful and then some of mud on it and that’s when Baekhyun finally feels the shame creep onto his face.

The barista lets out a small giggle, almost too quiet to hear, but Baekhyun smirks back.

“It’s just a little mud,” he says and then the mud on his hair drips down to hit his cheek and he promptly shuts up. The cute barista caves and steps down from her stool. She heads to the back room, leaving Baekhyun dripping mud and water on the pristine tilling. He stands there dumbly until she returns, handing him a clean set of working clothes. The apron is three sizes too big and he thinks, darkly, that she must have done it on purpose.

But, seeing as the rain won’t let up and that he’s stuck in the cafe for god knows how long, Baekhyun accepts the clothes gratefully.

“Thanks,” he says, still mopping up his dripping hair with his equally wet sleeve. He turns around to find a restroom when she slaps at him with a table cloth and points the other way.

“Bathroom is over there, Nemo,” she says with a teasing lilt and Baekhyun reads her name tag for the first time. Kyungsoo.

It’s quite a manly name for someone so tiny and cute, but Baekhyun thinks idly that it sort of kind of fits her as she raises an expectant brow and Baekhyun flees into the bathroom with his tail between his waterlogged legs.

As it turns out, the pants are entirely too long as well and Baekhyun has to wind them up twice to even get them past his ankle. Given that it’s no surprise that a coffee shop doesn’t stock clean male underwear at any given time, Baekhyun has to go commando underneath the giant baggy pants and it’s kind of a huge blessing that they’re incredibly baggy because they manage to hide everything. While his dick isn’t exactly the definition of huge, Baekhyun is happy for whatever cover he can get.

It feels like walking out there naked and the tiny table cloth isn’t enough to wipe out all the moisture on his body. Baekhyun feels like there’s there’s still water leaking out of his ass and it’s pretty mortifying to leave wet stains all over the place.

Another downside to add to the downpour of the weather is that there were no replacement shoes so Baekhyun simply takes out his soggy socks and shamefully squeaks his way back into the main entrance donning a barista outfit.

Kyungsoo cracks a smile at his ridiculous garb, her first real one since Baekhyun slipped into the coffee shop and offers him a mop.

Baekhyun looks at it like she’s wielding a sword or something equally violent. She looks at him expectantly, nodding at him and holding out the mop.

“Umm, thank you? I guess,” Baekhyun says, extending out a hand. “uh, I guess, I’m umm just go over there and um, yeah, I’ll mop up the water cause it was my fault and yeah...”

“Yes, please,” she says curtly. She turns back to go around the counter and takes her step back on top of the tiny stool. Baekhyun likes a girl like that if he’s being frank and he’s never been good at not staring blatantly when someone like that shows up.

She turns back around, facing him and realizes he’s staring.

“Did you need something?” she asks, trying at least to put a little bit of concern into her voice. Baekhyun shakes his head but stays in place with the sad mop in his hand. She stares at him some more as Baekhyun stumbles some more with the mop in hand.

“Well then?” she prompts and Baekhyun springs into action sliding back to the entrance. He hears an amused laugh and does his best to hide his butt from view.

The rain lets up around 6pm and Baekhyun is lucky enough that he wasn’t forgetful enough to forget his wallet today. He buys a drink and a few croissants and settles down in the corner. His textbooks are drenched, but Baekhyun makes the most out of his afternoon, leafing through them in an attempt to study.

Kyungsoo works the entire shift, evading Baekhyun and his thoughtless questions like a pro. They still end up making small talk for what it is worth and Baekhyun ends up learning that some where in the world there exist students that don’t have classes on Monday.

“How???” he moans dramatically and Kyungsoo waves him off with a laugh.

“I took summer school the year before and ended up with too many credits,” she explains. “If I ended up taking all the classes I wanted to this year, I would have gone over the limit and had to pay graduate tuition.”

“How?” Baekhyun echoes not because he’s confused or anything, but more like he can’t believe her luck or hard work.

“I just told you,” she says simply and the smile on her face is a little haughty. Baekhyun sighs, leaning back into his soggy book and watches the rain clear out.

It’s dark by the time he leaves, but the quaint little coffee shop looks even cuter all lit up. He swings his bag over his shoulder and pauses by the door.

“Do you umm,” he makes a vague motion, gesturing to his entire outfit from the too long pants to the baggy apron. It would be kind of a huge problem if Kyungsoo asked for them back.

“Do you think I want them back?” Kyungsoo says, eyes huge. She blinks, once and twice, before cracking into a smile. “As fond as I’ve gotten of you this entire afternoon and as much of a help you’ve been to me today, I really don’t want to see you strip.”

“I wouldn’t strip,” Baekhyun taunts suggestively and Kyungsoo shuts him up with a glare.

“Public indecency is really your strong suit,” she says with a huff and Baekhyun squawks in indignation.

“I slipped in here wet and muddy,” he argues, “I wasn’t naked.”

On second thought, his shirt had been white, but he doubts that he was even visible this morning beneath all that mud. Kyungsoo shakes her head like she can’t believe she’s still dealing with Baekhyun and walks over to open the coffee shop door herself.

“Have a good day,” she says laughing as Baekhyun nearly trips in the too large pants. “Thank you for your help.”

On Tuesday, Baekhyun doesn’t order anything.

It’s sunny outside and he curses the bi-polar weather for all it’s worth, but at the very least it means he doesn’t have to worry about getting drench again and swimming to duck for shelter in the coffee shop. To be fair, he doesn’t even step inside the coffee shop. He sits outside under the shaded patio, pulls out a textbook on Tax Law, puts on his designer sunglasses that Chanyeol claimed complimented his face shape very well, and angles his chair for the best possible view of the counter taking into account the glare against the window.

He sees the barista, Kyungsoo, talk to customers a pretty smile donning her features. It’s sort of creepy that he’s plainly staring at her like this, but at least it beats slipping on his ass drenched and drowned again. Plus, Baekhyun has to return the clothing he borrowed at some point, not that he had it with him today, but he’s more than okay with waiting maybe a little longer.

It wouldn’t be a good look to be too overeager at this point.
