Minseok feints to sixte, before lunging with a clean cut to quinte. Yixing reacts too slowly to dance out of the way like he usually does and lets out a yelp of surprise when he feels the contact. Minseok crows in victory, peeling off his mask and shaking his sweat-plastered bangs from his face.

"You're good," Yixing says, as he mirrors Minseok's actions. He grins, awkwardly blinking sweat from his eyes before he gives up with a lopsided shrug. They shake hands out of habit, even though this is the hallway of Yixing's apartment, and not an actual piste. It's also halfway through summer, and over thirty five degrees outside, and there was no way in hell either of them were going to venture further outside than they had to.

Besides, the apartment had air conditioning. That was all they really needed, they'd reasoned.

Dropping their masks and sabers off next to the kitchen table, Minseok peels off his glove and leaves it on the counter while he digs two mugs out from the drying rack.

"You're here so often you might as well live here," Yixing jokes from where he's fishing for the ice cream in the freezer.

Minseok looks up from the sink and shrugs. "And interrupt all your Chinese? I'll pass."

Yixing chuckles, as he finally pulls a carton of chocolate ice cream out of the fridge. "Sorry, Yifan, I mean, Kris won rock paper scissors for the flavour of the week."

"Hey, I'm not paying." Minseok grins. He leans back against the counter, unzipping his jacket and taking several gulps of water from the mug. Yixing bustles around the kitchen as he searches for two clean bowls and spoons, eventually finding them in the unused dish washer.

"I always forget we put things in there to dry," he says ruefully.

Minseok watches him thoughtfully. Yixing isn't tall like Kris, but the line of his body is still sleek and slender, and in the white of his fencing jacket, he looks incredibly beautiful, as always. Even with it unzipped. Which is a dumb thought. "Of course fencers are beautiful," Zitao always insists. Sometimes, he'll pause thoughtfully and then add: "unless you're old. Maybe."

"Hey," Minseok says. Yixing hums and twists to look back at him. "You were going easy on me again weren't you?"

Yixing twists his lips into a quizzical smile. "Not really," he says. "I'm really not that good."

Minseok scoffs. "Lies. If you weren't that good you wouldn't be here." Here, being university, with a fencing scholarship, but Yixing just ducks his head and finishes scooping out the ice cream.

"Where's Lu Han anyway?" Minseok asks, changing the subject. "I was surprised when he didn't try to smother me to death again."

Yixing laughs, his shoulders hitching up and down as he hands Minseok a bowl of ice cream. "Studying. At the library. Yifa—Kris got tired of him bothering him when he was studying, so they both went to the library. They have a midterm on Monday."

"Ahhh," Minseok nods understandingly. The kitchen falls silent except for the click of metal against ceramic. Minseok finishes first, and toys with the last bits of melted ice cream still in the bowl for a few seconds before he goes to wash it in the sink.

"Oh, just leave it there," Yixing says, jogging over a distance that could have been walked. "I'll wash it!"

Minseok shrugs and grins wryly. "It'll be faster this way," he says, reaching for a dishcloth. "Besides, wanna go another round?"

Yixing laughs, hovering behind Minseok's shoulders. "It's so hot," he says, and then shrugs too. "I need the practice too, but, Minseok, why don't you compete more? I mean it when I said you're good."

Minseok hums and balances the bowl precariously on the drying rack. "Too much work," he says, giving the same answer he always does. He shrugs again, and turns, nearly crashing into Yixing. Minseok makes a face as Yixing stumbles backwards before Minseok steadies him by the waist.

"If this was a bout, I guess I lose," Yixing laughs.

Minseok laughs too. "Touche."
