mats now, i know less about because i didn't quite discover him until he showed up in euro 2012 and people started lauding him as the next beckenbauer???

he wasn't there for wc 2010 but he really got noticed for bringing his club team borussia into the light. basically if you know nothing abt the german club league, it's basically always been bayern munich- the giants- and everybody else. but then suddenly there was this little team of nugus by the name of borussia dortmund that swept everyone aside with a super young team (sounds similar to the german nt back in 2010 doesn't it?) and he got recognized by the german nt coach and called up for euros

mats is a defender but he actually used to play defensive midfield back in u21 (or so i've read) so that's why he's really good at passing and reading the opposing team's offense. sports ppl like to term him as a type of sweeper which is basically a defender who also has an edge in offensive tactics and can help start play making from the back?? idk if i explained that very well

he also has aerial game like woah, as evidenced by his header today during portugal, but yeah generally if you want to fight for possession for a ball in the air he's your man

umm he's also really gorgeous if you haven't noticed and he's tight with benedickt howedes who played with him in the centerback pairing back in u21 matches
