i think it was a combination of things. he wanted control of his own acting career, he didn't want to be a kpop idol, he wanted to be able to live in china with his mom, and he didn't like what he was doing. he tried to leave before wolf but obviously wasn't able to, then he probably tried to leave again once he filed the lawsuit but the sewul incident happen, then he went to china for that acting job and figured it was now or never.
