Given the urgency of the situation, the traveller standing in front of them right now is strangely calm. He'd set up under a tree, pinned a...thing? to it, taken the time to properly stable his horse, and had even offered the village elders tea. They had, understandably, refused, but had either been too polite or too terrified to ask the traveller to hurry the fuck up.
Baekhyun hung around the edge of the crowd, perched on top of a fence. Beside him, his friend stood behind the same fence, leaning contemplatively against it.
"You're sure he's the real thing?" Baekhyun did not sound convinced.
Zitao shrugged, his expression unchanging, eyes sharp. In this small town where everyone knew everyone and almost everyone was related to everyone, Zitao who had come to them some ten years ago now was still considered an "outsider". But Baekhyun had always had a habit of taking in strays. Or something like that. Out of all the strays he'd taken in, however, only Zitao had stuck around for so long - or rather, it was only Zitao that Baekhyun had kept around for so long.
Whatever Baekhyun has to say next, however, is cut off as the traveller waves his hands to get everyone's attention.
"See," he starts slowly, as silence falls abruptly, "the thing is, it's not very difficult to kill a dragon."
This starts a clamour - because if it wasn't so difficult, then why were they having so much difficulty? Was he calling them stupid? Incompetent? Baekhyun quirks an eyebrow. Zitao just shrugs.
It takes the traveller some time to calm them this time, his expression never changing. He blinks. "You didn't let me finish," he says. "It's not very difficult to kill a dragon. The difficult part is that not everyone can."

and then obviously the traveller is yixing, baekhyun ends up being the one chosen to go kill the dragon, and then shenanigans happen in which zitao accidentally stops time
