don't be. people are assholes, but not everyone you encounter will be. most days a big portion of the customers you'll have zero opinion on since they're just there to grab their shit and pay. you'll have pleasant customers and you'll have one or two annoying assholes

today i worked over 25 minutes past closing because this lady who comes in several times a week bought a bunch of cat food can and it broke my register lol. she's super weird about it though because everything has to be bagged by flavor and color and not double bagged but tied on topped. i had to do price changes for all the cat cans and my manager made the point to huff and puff while standing over me. like i personally broke the register so i could work over? the woman was really nice about it and apologized for being late. she even told me how she wished everyone had my disposition, it made my day because she's such a bitch to everyone else

one time i worked at a gym, and i got a phone call on my lunch break that my sister was in the hospital. i was really upset and when i went back to work, i asked if i could just do the laundry or clean or something because i was so upset, and they put me in the daycare to watch the kids.

they called my temp agency and fired me the next day. :'[

i wasn't asking about a specific store or locations, it was for the online customer service and he didn't even tell me that he had no clue or no way of finding out, just that it wasn't currently available. like i don't mind being told idk but don't just ignore my question and it wasn't even over the phone or anything like that where he would feel rushed. it was just really dismissive in how he replied

oh my god this cat lady came in all the time and was a total bitch

i worked in produce at the time and she came in and ate our persimmons and got the juice ALL OVER HERSELF and all over the floor and just gave me the stuff to throw away, then bought ONE persimmon. after that, she made me help her take her groceries to her car and the entire car was filled to the brim with just....junk. stuff. all kinds of stuff. and it all smelled like cat piss.

and she always wore a giant flower clip on the top of her head.
