ilt so much i could watch them banter all day ;; previously i thought their friendship was a little onesided (chen is 10x more affectionate than baek could ever hope to be) but after watching a few shows i realize they care about each other a lot...even if bark doesnt show it outwardly. and they know each other so well! ik anons were like "baek isnt very close with anyone" and i agree with that (imo he's just that sort of guy who'd rather have a gaggle of friends than stick to one bff) but if anyone had a fighting chance at being closest to baek/knowing him best (and vice versa maybe?? does baekhyun care abt other ppl's lives??) it would be chen u__u

omo qt baekchen anon ;; i'm one of the anons that was discussing baek(and by extension -chen) in last part's thread and ia with this! and honestly lol i think baekhyun is very teasing and has a rly mocking sense of humor which is what comes across most often but he does care u__u like ofc he can be an ass but i think he's one of those ppl who shows he's comfortable enough w/ u to be an ass without u being offended if that makes sense?? sometimes he goes too far chasing jokes in bad taste and i hope he understands when he's truly offended someone but he's rly delighted by people's reactions to him + he can also take ribbing from the others so it's not hypocritical in the sense that he teases the shit out of other people but can't take it himself. idk lol there are indicators that he's thoughtful and ia that he'd feel kinship with chen just based on their trainee situations and how easy/comfortable their interactions are ;;;; qt friendships sob

so i realized lengthy all-encompassing kaibaekyeol meta would require blurbs about each of them as individuals + meta about each leg of the ot3 + them as three and a whole lotta delu on my part so please m(__)m bear with me ;; i'm just gonna go in alphabetical order lol

baek

so, baekhyun. i'm one of the baekhyun anons that's been talking about him a lot in these threads for the past couple of parts but it's hard to talk about him solo without ppl to bounce off of/any real targeted questions that i'm supposed to hit. uhhh basically tho i think baekhyun's a pretty normal twentysomething guy who grew up in a fairly normal way, with a family that probably spoiled him too much as the youngest, casually charming his way through life lol. he's hardworking, isn't afraid to go after what he wants, likes making people laugh (sometimes to the detriment of the butt of the joke), is totally fine making a fool of himself and/or becoming the butt of the joke if its in service to the greater joke. aside from mood-making/joke-telling i think he's good at reading people and reading moods and so knows what best to say in certain situations and understands ppl well. i also think he's generally pretty easygoing and likes everyone as a baseline/likes being friends with loads of people and has a high threshold for bullshit, but if you burn him/do something to seriously wrong him (in his perception) he'll drop you. like i think he has very specific things that set him off and if you pass those lines he's just going to shut you down and shut you out. on the flip side if you're in with him i honestly think he'll have your back when you rly need it. he'll tease you mercilessly but he'll also be there for you ykwim

it's a bit difficult to put into words why but one of the things i've noticed about him is that i think he's the type of person who likes to be the more well-loved party in relationships? which is a little different from wanting the spotlight/attention (though i think he also enjoys that) or that he wouldn't love the other person in his own way, i think he just likes it when other people are more demonstrative about their affection. he likes showing people he's comfortable with them by teasing the shit out of them but i can see other parties getting frustrated because he isn't as openly affectionate. IT'S COMPLICATED LOL

i said this in a previous thread but i feel like ppl like reading hidden insecurities into baekhyun and idt that's necessarily true? i think he can be hard on himself and that manifests in him pushing himself even more to be better but i think he might not share his worries with people because he doesn't want to burden them with his problems rather than from a need/compulsion to HIDE it? less a "oh no people must not think i'm weak!!!!" thing and more of a "ppl probably don't want to hear about my issues because they aren't interesting." and honestly i think most of his problems are less identity-based and more skill-based, i.e. it's less "oh god i have secret self-esteem issues so i gotta overcompensate by being hilarious and peppy 24/7" but more "i'm lacking in this area so i'm going to work my ass off to improve." and sometimes the stress/pressure might be too much i.e. when lu han saw him crying bc his singing wasn't coming out well + his slump in the first half of 2013. and that, in part, is born out of a clear sense of self imo? he knows what he's good at and what he's not so great at and lol i think he can be hard on himself when things aren't going according to plan. and when people try to pry that stuff out of him i think he tends to withdraw because he doesn't want to open himself up to vulnerability

chanyeol

i think baekhyun and chanyeol have a lot of similarities lol. BUT this is pcy's blurb so i'll wait to talk about that more in the baekyeol section (jesus christ why is this so long already)

chanyeol!!! what to say about chanyeol. i think he's one of the members that people tend to read lots of insecurities into also ig because he presents so confidently?? but i think he really is pretty confident and not that insecure, idk. he's very aware of his image and the camera and wants to come across in a certain way so people think he's completely artificial bc he goes overboad sometimes lol. i think he's extremely assured in the things he excels at and isn't afraid to own it lol. he's a long-term trainee so he knows how the game works and how to play it, and he grew up surrounded by that kind of attention so i think he enjoys it a lot, but idt he's the attention-seeking monster that people tend to make him out to be. he'd probably rather have it than not but like, dude will live if the camera isn't on him, honest. he likes talking and getting other people to talk, he's charming and will physically go out of his way to go for a laugh and isn't afraid to play the fool.

i rly like his ~shadow leader~ qualities? ik that's less of an overt thing now with ot12 promotions but he's still lowkey competent in a lot of ways (thinking about his multi-instrumentality and being helpful around the house). it sounds weird when i put it this way but chanyeol's like, a really competent adult human being lol??? he's stingy in a way that makes me think he's very careful with his money and belongings and he's good at taking care of people, he can cook and clean. he goes over the top with fanservice so often but hey that's the nature of the beast and bless his heart for trying so hard. maybe he isn't as good at being natural about this stuff but i think it's nice that he gets so dedicated about it. he likes making sure people are included and playing off the things they say or do and jogging conversation which is always good. he's also p good at reading people and reading the mood.

what else... lol he certainly knows he's hot and isn't afraid to let ppl know that he knows that he's hot. his sense of humor is very physical. going back to the competency stuff i think in that sense he's pretty self-sufficient but he also latches on and attaches to ppl easily through like sheer force of will bc he's such a big/effusive personality. i do think he has the tendency to steamroll and get carried away when he's super into something. i feel like his attitude toward setbacks and problems is to confront it head on? idk though, sigh haha people who are more familiar with pcy need to take over and/or talk to me about him because i'm all out slkfsd

kai

i think one of kai's most defining (?) characteristics is his drive/passion for stuff that he really loves, the most obvious of which is dance. he is sf dedicated to the things he likes lol (see also: anime, fried chicken, sleep) and on the flip side things he def does not care about fall to the wayside. he's very particular about what he chooses to focus on and if something doesn't fall under the umbrella of "things he cares about" then he's not going to really give it the time of day. he can be picky about this stuff and therefore picky about the people he's close to

it's been said before but kai seems pretty quiet and cold at first but is actually a really fluffy and happy kid. i feel like once he opens up to someone there's like... no turning back LOL and then he becomes the kid that is blunt and isn't afraid to speak his mind. "yah hyungs i'm just telling it like it is~" and since he's so dedicated to the stuff he likes i think he also really appreciates hard work/dedication/honing of talent from others and is drawn to ppl who share similar passions. he's really easily amused and surprised and embarrassed lmao i think he just feels things a lot? idk how to word this properly orz. and i think he's thoughtful, not necessarily in the sense that he thinks of other people a lot , but more that he tries to think things through when he's doing something? like when he's trying something he thinks it through and goes all the way. whenever he writes things down or says things in earnest he often comes across as pretty measured and mature which is interesting because he can also be such a child lol

he has to be aware of how he comes across on stage, there's no way he doesn't. and for that reason idt he's as totally innocent/inexperienced/wtv as ppl make him out to be sometimes. easily flustered and embarrassed for sure, especially offstage when he isn't playing to a stage persona and is just normal kid jongkai, and perhaps more hesitant because of it, but not completely clueless.

baekyeol

baekyeol, oh baekyeol. honestly i think they stuck to each other so quickly at first bc they are really similar people. when i was typing up individual blurbs it was really hard to not repeat myself (and obviously i didn't even succeed smh). they're the same age, they're comfortable being around and friendly with lots of people, they like attention. individually they like being funny and together that's augmented (them teasing the hell out of doppar lol poor doppar; tho ig physical retaliation is his advantage). when baek first joined as a trainee he was probably trying to find solid ground and he got it with chenyeol because they're loud and talkative and friendly too. i think pcy might have a tendency to cling sometimes, and he thinks it's his way of expressing affection but it might feel suffocating for the other party and i think that might happen with baekhyun sometimes. also people who are too similar can see their deficiencies in each other so that could also be a source of conflict between them. ultimately though i think they're good friends and understand each other well

kaibaek

kaibaek is interesting because they can be really kiddish around each other but also take turns being the hyung? kiddish: baekhyun makes kai laugh ALL THE TIME even when what he's doing isn't even that hilarious... and baekhyun really likes spurring maknaes on and kai isn't an exception. playfighting in the airport, playfighting at idol olympics, playfighting at sm the building... baek teases/mimics kai a lot but he also thinks kai is sexy and broadcasts it often enough lol. kai initiates lots of casual touches with baekhyun and baekhyun loves grabbing dat ass :3 i think they became close/friendly because of mutual respect for each other's hard work and dedication. baekhyun is sometimes very hyung-like and takes care of kai (the airport incident is the first thing that comes to mind but also minor backstage stuff with baek fixing kai's outfits etc, specifically motioning for kai to do stage stuff aka bow together and give a speech at an awards ceremony) but kai can also be hyung-like when he herds baekhyun around on and off stage, manhandles him etc

kaiyeol

part of predebut line!!! and for that reason i think kai is more comfortable with being a shit around chanyeol? he likes interacting with and touching baekhyun but he seems freer around pcy, both to tease him and to reject/accept touching. i liked it when they were lowkey competitive (the snowball fight omg) and i like it now when pcy is amping up the fanservice with him and kai understands it's fanservice but enjoys being along for the ride. they've just known each other for a really long time and as such i think chanyeol humors kai a lot and kai feels free to be a disrespectful dongsaeng when he wants to be and knows pcy won't take it to heart/take offense. similarly pcy feels free to tease/rib kai and not have kai be offended by it

finally: kaibaekyeol

i'm actually rly into all the scenarios that anons outlined in that monster thread lol ;; baekyeol fucking around and roping kai into it, kaibaek dancing around each other and chanyeol wanting in, kaiyeol predebut friends adding baekhyun to the mix. with that last one i like the idea of kaiyeol being freer with what they feel and baekhyun not rly wanting to open himself up to the possibility of being hurt but being drawn 2 them anyway. i think my favorite might be the first scenario though lol, baekyeol being casual fwb/maybe more but both wanting kai/feeling tender about him and reacting differently to that: pcy confronting it head-on and being up-front about it and baekhyun maybe burying it because he doesn't want to think about the problems it could cause? also dealing with it seriously would require admitting he actually kind of has a heart lol which i can see him not being here for. kai would prob be flustered and hesitant about it but if he sees both of them are srs i can see him being steadfast and doggedly pursuing it (pcy also), so then it'd become kaiyeol trying to wear baekhyun down into admitting what he wants haha

this is mostly me spitballing idk please talk to me T__T about them T__T so i know i'm not typing at a void slkfjsd i am so open to talking abt this bc my hc and thoughts are constantly in flux like none of this is rly that static

... i can't believe i just wrote an entire essay on kaibaekyeol gently digs a hole and buries myself in it hhahahaah
