and even after that, chanyeol's pretty vague about what this all means and jongin just rolls with it because somehow amidst everything he finds himself actually, well, liking chanyeol. and it's weird, but nice at the same time.

later jongin finds out why exactly it is chanyeol's like this, though, and what he finds out is that chanyeol's got a fucking fiancee, which chanyeol had decided not to tell jongin about but not because he just wants to fuck on jongin on the side.

no, he doesn't tell jongin because he's trying to work his way out of this business deal (the arrangement between him and this girl is really nothing more than that), but jongin doesn't know this and ends up not speaking to chanyeol for weeks, that turn into months, and chanyeol doesn't push it.

he knows not to push it when it comes to jongin, he knows it would only make things worse but one day, he's in jongin's neighborhood and he can't help but make a quick stop by his place, knocks on his door, and...

"what are you doing here?" jongin asks, his lips pressed into a thin line that means business and chanyeol knows it. chanyeol swallows and lets out that nervous sort of laugh jongin knows he only uses when the pressure's too much (usually chanyeol's good at handling situations, any sort of situation and nervousness doesn't come to him easily). "i was in the neightborhood." he replies, using his hands to talk as he waves one aimlessly about as if this was explanation enough (he knows it's not). "and i thought i'd stop by." another nervous laugh. "i just...wanted to see how you were doing?" chanyeol then says, the expression in his eyes hopeful as he meets jongin's gaze. jongin can feel himself melt slightly just from that look alone but he narrows his eyes. "why do you care?" he shoots out instead and the hurt expression in chanyeol's expression so painfully clear that jongin almost wants to take it back. jongin shakes his head. "what are you really doing here, chanyeol?" he finally asks, tired because he hasn't been able to sleep well in weeks and usually decides to spend that time instead, dancing his feet to ruin at the studio.

jongin opens it. he's surprised. angry. "what the fuck are you doing here?" he asks and chanyeol scratches his head, looks away. "look, jongin, i know i fucked up--" "really now?" "yes, ok," he says, and sighs, "look, jongin, there were reasons for that fiancée business and they're just that... business. remember my family's company? it was a business deal." jongin doesn't look like he really buys it, or, even if he does, like that makes up for anything, "anyway, point is, it's off. the business part of the deal fell through, it was no longer necessary to marry the girl, i wheedled my way out of doing it to 'save' the company relationship, and everything's over. i'm single." "ok," jongin says slowly. his face his blank. chanyeol sighs again, thankful that at least he hadn't slammed the door in his face. "do you want to... try again?" he asks, and the tension seems to fall out of jongin's body. he doesn't look happy, or even very relieved, just tired, not angry any more. "could you give me some time to think about it?" jongin asks, and chanyeol nods, because he knows that that's the best he can hope for right now.
