sometimes i wonder if (and maybe this is an unfair accusation, but mostly young and/or new writers) are aware of how gendered some words are. like, just as an example, it automatically sounds more "feminine" if you write giggle, whine, etc. and more "masculine" if you use chuckle, groan, etc. exchange just a few words and the whole scene can have a completely different feel

yeah exactly. i think some writers do just have the relationships in this cookie-cut format despite the gender and use those set words for each half of the pair. idk if its conscious or not if they don't realize there is a difference in writing gay relationships compared to a straight relationships. just small things would change it like you said
