(Anonymous) 2014-07-09 07:50 am (UTC)(link)He and his father moved around a lot when he was younger, and it didn’t take long for him to realize that the frivolous things—toys, trophies, photos—couldn’t always make the journey. He lost count of the times his father came to wake him up in the middle of the night, told him to pack a bag, and left a couple hours later. Leaving behind the rest of Kyungsoo’s life but what was in the bag he had gripped in his tiny hands.
So he learned to live out of a suitcase, and only kept the necessities. It was hard to miss something that he never had.
It makes it easy, now, to check out of his motel room. He hasn’t quite managed to catch the vampire he’s been chasing around the country, and every time he manages to get close it disappears off of his radar. He’s close now, closer than he ever has been, but he’s been staying in this motel for three days now and it’s too long. It’s dangerous.
Kyungsoo is almost done packing his life into his compact suitcase when he hears the subtle shift of fabric from behind him. It only takes him a second to turn on his heels, stake in hand. All he sees is a blur of black and flash of red before he’s thrown back, his head bouncing off the ground and the stake ricocheting out of his hand.
“I’m sorry,” a voice says, and Kyungsoo opens his eyes to see none other than Park Chanyeol. “You know how that thing freaks me out.”
“Maybe because it’s meant to kill you,” Kyungsoo growls. He props himself up and grabs the stake again, but decides to keep it in his back pocket for now. He has quick reflexes, he tells himself. He could grab it and kill Chanyeol any time he wanted.
He doesn’t.
“That could be it,” Chanyeol says with a chuckle, and Kyungsoo spots a flash of the sharp fangs inside of his mouth.
The hair on the back of his neck stands on edge.
Chanyeol is very good at pretending to be normal. With his messy red hair and thick-framed glasses and over-sized black hoodie, he could almost pass as a college student. He told Kyungsoo, once, that he sometimes attends classes just for fun, that he liked to meet new people. Kyungsoo didn’t want to ask why.
Sometimes Kyungsoo can almost forget—that’s he’s a vampire, with the way he laughs too loud and trips over his too long limbs and likes to smile so big whenever he’s around Kyungsoo. Kyungsoo can almost forget that Chanyeol could kill him in instant. That Kyungsoo is supposed to be killing him instead.
Almost, but not quite.
He stands and walks backwards until his back is pressed against the far wall of the motel room, far from where Chanyeol is standing near the door. Kyungsoo is mad at himself for even letting Chanyeol get into his room. He should have heard, he should have been more alert, this is a fucking amateur move. He could have been killed. He would have been killed if it was anyone else. If it were anyone else, they might now have been able to get in. Kyungsoo’s senses always seem to be lowered when he’s around Chanyeol and Chanyeol has a way of always sneaking himself into where he’s not wanted.
“What are you doing here?” Kyungsoo finally asks, watching as Chanyeol lays himself across Kyungsoo’s single bed and sprawls his limbs out, a relaxed smile on his face when he looks back at Kyungsoo.
(Chanyeol always puts himself into vulnerable positions when he’s around Kyungsoo. Like he knows that Kyungsoo isn’t going to hurt him.)
“Maybe I just wanted to see you. My favorite vampire hunter.”
Kyungsoo scoffs. “I doubt that.”
“You shouldn’t underestimate your charms,” Chanyeol says, and his grin widens. “You’re very cute.”
“Stop fucking around, Park, I don’t have all day,” Kyungsoo growls out.
He’s half just annoyed at Chanyeol, but he’s also worried. Vampires have a way of sensing each other, and Kyungsoo doesn’t need to start attracting a bunch of vampires because Chanyeol is following him around like a bug to a flame.
Kyungsoo blinks, and the next instant Chanyeol is off the bed and right in front of him, breathing into his neck. Kyungsoo knows that he should run, that he should grab the stake out of his back pocket and send it straight through his heart—but he can’t even breathe.
“I caught a whiff,” he whispers right into Kyungsoo’s ear, “of that vampire you’re trying to catch. Name’s Sehun.”
Kyungsoo squeezes his eyes shut. Chanyeol’s found out the information that he’s been looking for for months.
“I know why it was difficult for you.” Chanyeol finally pulls away, but Kyungsoo doesn’t want to open his eyes and face the bragging grin he’s sure to be sporting. “He travels with another vamp, Zitao. Their scents mingle.”
“Why are you telling me this?” Kyungsoo asks, and when he finally manages to open his eyes Chanyeol’s grin is blinding.
“I thought…” Chanyeol begins, opening his mouth and barring his fangs, his eyes turning the slightest hint of red, “we could catch them. Together.”
