da my problem is the fact that people misuse the word trigger so it's become basically worthless but that's not really a problem with the legitimacy of triggers or the use of warnings

idt i understand this, can you explain more? bc i think ppl are still using trigger warnings? and if people trigger things appropriately it works some what? or do you mean that triggers should only be used under certain conditions? in which case you might have a point but it's hard to tell over the internet what triggers are serious/are not unless you know the person irl, so best you to take them all seriously imo or have i missed the point?

i think that people misuse the word trigger when they mean to use something closer to squick, which i think makes it easier for people to dismiss trigger warnings as a whole because they see something like "waterscapes tw" and go "psh that's ridiculous" and that's not necessarily the fault of people who misuse the label but eh it doesn't help and the idea of what a trigger is has become so diluted it's a rather worthless term. though i would never argue against using warnings.

and i think the way that a lot of people treat them is the way people lie about having allergies in restaurants because they want to make sure they don't get pickles on their sandwich.
