Re: wc!au: team chen - trouble pt.4

Jongin doesn’t feel like anything has changed. He and Sehun still fight and he throws the first punch sometimes and gets the last word. But that doesn’t seem to keep Sehun from insulting him and questioning him, but he finds out that Sehun’s low blows can get much lower and he can hit much harder. When Jongin was reactive he held back, but now that he’s an opponent he uses all sorts of attacks. It has been three years and Sehun has learned all his weaknesses and insecurities, while keeping his own hidden. Jongin can only retort with general insults. He cries less, finding comfort in the fact that Sehun’s neck is just as bruised as his and his cheek is still purple from the last time they fought. Joonmyun still calls him from time to time, but he has his own busy life as an adjunct professor at University of Incheon. Chanyeol graduated last year and hasn’t contacted Jongin since, but after Joonmyun was gone they kind of drifted apart anyway.

Jongin is going into his final year of university, he’s been selected to work on the welcome mural and also chosen for an internship that his professor forced the entire class to apply to. The people on his design team seem to expect him to be some great leader since he’s done the mural before. But his life is hectic and he finds himself falling asleep during planning meetings and just agreeing to whatever idea. The internship isn’t much better at least Jongin can take his work home and sleep at his desk for a bit. It also helps that his boss, Kyungsoo has taken a liking to him. He’s surprised when the man pops up at his cubicle and taps his shoulder waking him from his nap. Jongin grabs the nearest pen and pretends to be busy. The other male just laughs. “I love this submission, I was wondering if you wanted to talk about expanding on the project over coffee.” Jongin wants to question why they can’t just talk about it in his office. But he just agrees.

As promised they talk about the project and Kyungsoo wants to turn it into a full feature in a magazine. Jongin is surprised but skeptical, what if he’s just using the project as a way to get in his pants. Jongin says he needs to think about it. Kyungsoo doesn’t approach the topic again until they’re getting lunch together a new habit they formed. “I really hope you’ll consider expanding on this concept.” Jongin had forgotten about it, he figured that Kyungsoo was just using it as a means of getting closer to him. He was pleasantly surprised to learn that he actually found the project good. Jongin agrees to meet with a photographer and 3D- Designer to create some renderings. Jongin thinks the meeting is over and gets up to leave but Kyungsoo ask him to wait. “I was wondering if you wanted to go out to dinner, unrelated to work.” Jongin is surprised but smiles and agrees it isn’t a date; he isn’t cheating.

Jongin tells himself that he isn’t cheating, but he knows it’s a lie. He guesses that Sehun and Tao have patched things up because Sehun doesn’t come home for a few days. Jongin remembers when he put a name to the man. And the fight ensued when he confronted Sehun about it. But it just gives him more time to date. “You move fast.” Kyungsoo comments after their third date. Jongin doesn’t know how to respond it didn’t seem like an insult but it wasn’t exactly a compliment. “My last relationship was in high school. I don’t have a lot of experience.” Jongin says staring downward, because he feels as though Kyungsoo will know he’s lying otherwise. “See, that’s what I mean. You’re really honest; it usually takes a while to build up that level of trust.” Jongin shrugs. “I’m just a really open person.”

Jongin and Kyungsoo continue dating even after the internship is over. The mural was featured in several news articles for being the most innovative in several years. It kind of hurts Jongin’s pride since he felt the mural four years ago was pretty great as well. They go out to celebrate the completion and the media attention. Jongin naturally invites Kyungsoo along. He feels a little out of place being older than all of the college students but after a few drinks they are conversing comfortably. Until Sehun comes into the bar, Jongin immediately excuses himself and goes over to his boyfriend. “Heard you were celebrating, don’t know why you wouldn’t ask me to tag along?” Jongin is speechless. “I was leaving anyway. I don’t like clubs. You know that.” Jongin laughs nervously. The fear in Jongin’s eyes seems to be enough to get him to walk out with him. Jongin is relieved but feels apologetic toward Kyungsoo.

Jongin heads for the bedroom but Sehun grabs his shoulder. “Are you ashamed of me? Am I not good enough to hang out with your college friends?” Jongin doesn’t know where all of this has come from. Any time Jongin gets remotely close to anyone Sehun ruins it. He doesn’t want him to have friends. “You don’t want me to have friends, just figured that you wouldn’t want to spend time with the ones I do have.” Sehun shoves him. “I told you to choose your friends wisely, not that you shouldn’t have friends. You stupid fuck.” Jongin laughs and gives him the finger before heading for the bedroom door. But Sehun jerks him back by the hair. “I’m the only friend you need baby. “Is that so?” Jongin ask elbowing him in the ribs and walking into the bedroom. Sehun follows him into the room and grabs him but more gently. “Did you miss me? You went off to find someone else to entertain you in my absence. But they’re only going to leave you in the end. Remember Joonmyun and Chanyeol who cared so much about you? They abandoned you. You think these new friends are going to stick around. You’re a manipulative bitch and sooner or later they’re all going to see it.” Sehun is whispering against his ear grinding against him. “I learned to be manipulative from you. You’re a great teacher. A shit person, but you can’t win at everything.” Jongin doesn’t fight against the touch, because it’s what Sehun wants him to do and he rather have good sex than give Sehun the satisfaction of winning their quarrel.

Jongin is moaning Sehun’s name when he gets a call from Kyungsoo, he looks over at his phone going quiet. Before Sehun grabs his chin and pulls him in for a sloppy kiss. The next morning Jongin wakes up in bed alone and Sehun is out of the apartment. He calls Kyungsoo back biting his lip nervously, because he doesn’t have an logical excuse for his disappearance. “Hey, what happened to you last night?” Jongin takes a deep breath to calm himself. “I threw up in the bathroom at the club and just went straight home. Sorry, I should have said something.” Jongin is crying silently because he doesn’t want to hurt Kyungsoo. “Oh it’s alright, come by my office today I want to speak with you.” Jongin agrees and panics, because maybe Kyungsoo already knows about Sehun and he’s going to break up with him in front of Sehun and cut all ties with him. But he relaxes, because that isn’t something Kyungsoo would do; that’s strictly a Sehun approach to issues.

He arrives at the office during Kyungsoo’s lunch and they go in to the conference room. “I’m going to be spending a few months in LA, working on a new project. I showed your designs to the investors and they think you would be a good addition to the team. It starts after your graduation of course.” Kyungsoo breaks into a huge grin but Jongin just stares at nothing completely mortified, at the thought of even proposing something like that to Sehun. Kyungsoo picks up on his mood and stops smiling. “If you need a few days to think about it, I understand.” Jongin nods awkwardly and leaves the office unable to focus on anything other than telling Sehun. When he gets back the other is already home.

“I’m about to tell you something and I need you to listen before reacting.” Jongin states calmly, but Sehun already has his faced formed in a scowl. “ What?” He ask not standing up from the kitchen table where he was seated. “I have the opportunity to go to LA for a few months after graduation.” Sehun stands up and approaches Jongin slowly, the other male backs away, but before he knows it his back is against the wall and Sehun’s fist is connecting with his face. He screams in pain and he’s pretty sure his nose his broken. Before he kicks Sehun in the stomach so hard the other falls to the floor with heave. Jongin climbs on top of him punching him repeatedly until Sehun wraps his hands around his neck. He loses the strength to throw punches and tries to crawl away but Sehun drags him back by the ankle. The fight continues until they’re both bruised, bloody and panting on the floor.
