i thought the preorder numbers that are mediaplayed are the amount the company ships based on a guesstimate and not actual sales ? i'm so confused

it's not a post exactly it's just how fandom has been calculating the preorder numbers... aren't those actual sales? i had to pay at the time i preordered on ktown4u for example, so if we already have 100k+ sales there it's not exactly the amount sm will produce/ship, right? i mean they'll produce more than what was ordered so fandom is assuming we have 300k+ preorders based on numbers we can see on sites but sm might say the preorder number is way more than that

yes the 380k being reported by fanbases rn is actual sales, they will go straight to buyers and won't sit on a shelf somewhere, so no that is not the exact amount sm will produce
anon below talked about demand and preorders are a good way to gauge how popular the album is going to be once released. sm probably has a multiplier set for preorder:production ratio, so the higher the preorder the higher the production
and then we also need to consider physical music stores that aren't doing online preorders, they will use their previous sales and maybe check online stores to see how in demand the album before they request for their stock from sm. also if they have lot of fan events that need album receipts planned sm will need to add that surplus to make sure it's available in stores
so once you put all this into consideration, we technically have more than 380k preorders right now, fanbases are keeping track so we know when we've beat the war numbers

those are the numbers that are produced and shipped out, yeah. technically they're all already sold, because stores have bought them. but if the stores can't sell them they get send back

honestly everything abt sales confuses me, dont even get me started on sm and pre-order, fans keep saying we have to pre-order a lot so sm stocks up a lot or smth but im just thinking if within the month we pre-order 2mill, than i assume the shipments sm is gonna send to shops are going to be smaller bc they gonna think 'well most fans have already pre-ordered their albums so not that many left to buy them from shops/online)

da it's supply and demand. shops will order more if there's a demand, i guess the demand is supposed to be the preorders
