part 1/2
(Anonymous) 2013-08-11 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)Jongin wakes up earlier than usual one day and finds Junmyeon already awake in the living room. This isn't unusual, as Junmyeon has made it a habit to wake up earlier ever since he started his research as he called it.
“Are you still looking in your mirror? Any new developments?” Jongin asks and plops down next to him.
“Ah, not really. You can go back to sleep,” Junmyeon answers and smiles at him.
“As much as I’d like to do that, I can’t. I had the strangest dream and I wouldn’t want to go back to that,” Jongin replies and sighs.
“Do you want to talk about it?”
“No, thanks. It wasn’t that big of a deal anyway. It just felt really strange.”
Junmyeon just nods and goes back to his mirror. They sit like that for a while, not saying a word. The only change that happens during that is when Jongin goes up to get something to eat for both of them.
“Oh,” Junmyeon says and Jongin turns to look at the mirror himself. His eyes widen when he sees an unfamiliar face staring back. But after he blinks the face is gone.
“Didn’t he kind of look like he was running away from something? Or was that my imagination?” Jongin questions and looks at Junmyeon, who is still not looking away from the miror.
“That’s what I thought. I wonder what that was about. Do you recognize the area he was in? Does it seem familiar to you?”
“Hmm, yes. It seems familiar. Why? Do you want me to take a look?”
Junmyeon only nods and Jongin sighs. So much for an uneventful and quiet morning.
“Be right back,” is all he says before he disappears.
~
Of course nothing is what it appeared to be. Jongin should have known, as he watches the man jog around. Jongin stifles a yawn and follows him.
“Do you always follow strangers around? Or is there something else you want from me?”
The question catches Jongin off guard and he almost stumbles over his feet in the process. When he looks up he sees the judging look from the other person.
“Not really. It’s just that I need your help with something.”
The man seems to consider his words for a while, before he sits down on one of the park benches. Jongin doesn’t lose any time and sits next to him, even if he feels a little awkward.
“And what can I help you with? It’s not like we ever met before, right?”
So Jongin explains everything, what he (and the small group of people he met along the way) have been up to. The other man simply nods when he finishes.
“And you’re saying that this person - Junmyeon if I remember correctly - saw me in a mirror? That is pretty strange. What is his power? Maybe it has something to do with that?” Minseok - as he introduced himself earlier - asks.
“His power is water,” Jongin simply answers.
“Ah, I see...” Minseok replies thoughtfully and looks at a puddle of water not far away from them. He touches the ring he wears and within seconds the puddle turns into ice.
“That is my power. It’s ice, so no wonder he saw me, since our powers are similar and basically deal with the same element.”
That is also what Minseok tells the group when he comes to their apartment later that day.
“So what you’re saying is that your power is inferior to mine?” Chanyeol says and smiles brightly.
“If that’s all you have to say to someone who is obviously older than you are, then I can’t help you. Besides, isn’t your power also inferior to Junmyeon’s? So why are you even pointing that out?” Minseok replies and smiles himself.
“Because Chanyeol always has to point out that he’s better and more special than the rest of us,” Baekhyun points out and the rest of the group laughs.
“Hey, I doubt any of you have a pet phoenix. So you better recognize me as your leader, or else...”
Chanyeol shuts up when he sees the look on his companion’s faces and realizes it’s one versus six now.
8
“Do we really have time to be going to clubs?” Junmyeon asks as he sits down at their table and watches his surroundings.
Since they worked hard on finding the remaining legends, they hardly had any freetime and since they figured that one day off wouldn’t really hurt anyone, they decided to go to a club. Of course it was mostly Jongin and Sehun’s idea to go there in the first place, but they somehow managed to convince everyone else as well. Maybe convincing others like that should have been their real superpower, is all Junmyeon can think of as he sips on his drink.
“Do we really have to go over this again?” Jongin asks and rolls his eyes.
“I’m just saying that we have other things to worry about. What if this LSM person suddenly appears in front of us? I’m not sure whether he’d approve of us playing around when we have other things on our sleeves...”
“Calm down and relax. It’s not like that person ever appeared in front of us again...”
Jongin gets interrupted by a sharp inhale of breath from Baekhyun, whose eyes widen as he sees something (or rather someone) in the club.
“Is everything okay? You look like you’ve just seen a ghost,” Chanyeol says and laughs a little at Baekhyun’s obvious discomfort.
“Do you see this guy over there? He’s the one I’ve been seeing glimpses of in the mirror and I’m pretty sure that he’s one of us,” Baekhyun replies and points to a boy, who sits at the bar.
“Well then, looks like another lucky day for us,” Kyungsoo can’t help but say and looks at Junmyeon pointedly. “Aren’t you lucky we came here now, Junmyeon?”
“I guess so,” comes the immediate reply.
“Let me handle this, I know him,” Minseok says and gets up from his place.
The rest of the group watches as Minseok starts a conversation with him, after they witnessed them greeting each other like long lost friends. When he points to the rest of the group and the guy’s looking over at them, some awkwardly wave in greeting, which he returns with a smile on his face.
After some more minutes both Minseok and his friend come back to their table.
“Guys, this is Yixing and yes, as you’ve pointed out, Baekhyun, he is one of us,” Minseok introduces them and Yixing waves again. This time it doesn’t seem as awkward as before.
“Nice to meet you, I guess we’ll be seeing more of each other from now on?” Yixing says and smiles at them.
“Is that a unicorn emblem you’re wearing?” Sehun asks him.
“Well yes, good observation, I guess. My power is healing, so it fits,” Yixing answers.
“Don’t act like that’s the first time you’ve seen that symbol, you idiot. I hope you at least remember the stones Chanyeol brought along,” Jongin says and smacks Sehun’s head. Sehun looks like he could be vaguely offended, but doesn’t do anything to show that. Instead he just rolls his eyes.
“Do you know others? Can you contact them?” Junmyeon asks then and everyone’s attention goes back to Yixing.
“Yes and yes. I’m not sure how soon I can get a hold of them though, but I’ll try my best. Judging from what Minseok told me, it seems pretty urgent,” Yixing says and whips out his cell phone.
After some time he looks up again, a smile on his face.
“Done~” is the only things he says.
And just as he finishes talking, his attention shifts to the beat that just started playing.
“So...is there anyone in this group who dances? I’d be up for a dance battle.”
9
It doesn’t take long and the first person comes barging into their home the next day.
They’ve been up longer that they’ve planned, because everyone was unsure who the better dancer between Yixing and Jongin was. It’s not like they’ve asked for their opinion, but for some reason a heavy discussion started from that. No one won in the end, but it didn’t seem to bother anyone anymore when they got home again.
The door opens on its own, as if it wasn’t locked and in comes a young-looking boy, who looks around curiously.
“Hello? Is anyone home?” he asks and when no one answers him he closes the door behind him again.
His exploring gets interrupted a minute later, when a sleepy looking stranger crosses his way to the kitchen to most likely fetch a glass of water. The stranger waves in greeting and Lu Han smiles in return.
“Thanks for closing the door,” Jongin sleepily murmurs as he indeed chucks down a glass of water.
“No problem. You should invest more in security though. Simply locking the door isn’t the safest way to keep strangers and burglars out of your house anymore,” Lu Han wisely advises and chuckles when Jongin nods.
“I’ll think about it. Thanks for your advice,” he tells Lu Han and is on his way to his room, when he notices something strange. He has never seen that guy before. And that is a problem. A big problem.
He runs back to the kitchen only to find Lu Han standing at the same spot as he did a minute ago. With the same smile on his face.
“Okay, who are you, why are you in my apartment and if you don’t answer any of my questions I’m calling the cops on you. Trust me on this, I’ve had enough strangers barging in on me, I’m serious right now,” Jongin asks the stranger, who for some reason still smiles.
“I’m Lu Han and I believe I was called here,” Lu Han answers. “Okay, well, maybe not called into your house, but it’s basically the same thing. Yixing texted me, so here I am.”
Jongin looks at him questioningly and Lu Han sighs. He takes a few steps until he stands closer to Jongin and points to his hand, where he wears one of the power symbols he’s seen before.
“My power is telekinesis, which is why it wasn’t difficult for me to get into your house when no one bothered to open the door for me. Where is everyone? I can’t believe you’re still asleep when it’s already afternoon. Did you party hard yesterday or what?”
“YIXING!!!” Jongin then screams. “YOUR FRIEND IS HERE, PLEASE DO SOMETHING!”
A minute later Yixing stumbles to the kitchen and looks at Lu Han in a disapproving way.
“I thought we talked about this, Lu Han. You can’t just enter a house when you’re a stranger here. You should feel lucky that Jongin didn’t call the cops,” Yixing says and Lu Han at least has the decency to act like he regrets his earlier actions.
“Maybe I should consider this and do it the next time a stranger enters my house without my permission,” Jongin murmurs and goes back to his room.
~
It doesn’t take long for Lu Han to get integrated into their strange household. He usually spends a couple of hours in his room, doing whatever, but when he meets the rest, he’s always lively and plays lots of games with the others.
Now is a time where he’s still in his room. Jongin sits around in the kitchen and waits for dinner while he looks through a magazine he found in the living room.
“Can you call Lu Han? Dinner is ready,” Kyungsoo asks him then and Jongin groans.
“I’ll be back,” is all he says and disappears.
“How often should I tell you this, no teleporting in the house!”
~
Jongin never was in Lu Han’s room before, but he didn’t really expect it to be like this. Lu Han is standing in the middle of a room and moves balls around.
“Is that what you normally do?” Jongin asks him.
“And what are you doing here?” Lu Han wonders without taking a look at Jongin.
“I don’t know, I’m just here to tell you about dinner.”
“Thank you. And yes, moving around these things helps me to work on my powers, as ridiculous as that may sound. It also helps me keep my mind of things.”
Jongin simply nods.
“Just...don’t forget about dinner.”
“I won’t.”
“Okay, see you then.”
~
“The best thing about telekinesis is that I don’t need to ask for anything anymore. Like for example, I could ask Minseok for the salt shaker over there like a normal person would or use my powers. I think you can guess where my priorities are,” Lu Han tells them later.
“I sometimes don’t know with you,” Minseok says and shakes his head.
“Hey, if it’s convenient....”
“You sound like Jongin,” Sehun says.
“Absolutely not,” Jongin disagrees and shoots Sehun a dirty look. Sehun just shrugs and goes back to his meal.
“Actually, Sehun is sort of right, you do have a similar outlook on things when it comes to your powers,” Junmyeon points out.
“Oh, I’d say so, too. After all we are on opposite sides on the power spectrum. Just like Junmyeon and Minseok or Yixing and Baekhyun are,” Lu Han explains with a smile.
“Really? That explains a lot,” Baekhyun says and chuckles.
Jongin just stares at Lu Han instead of saying anything.
10
“Isn’t it strange that it takes the other three that long to come back to us?” Lu Han asks one day, when he, Yixing and Jongin are out to do shopping.
“Maybe you’re not as friendly as you like to pretend you are,” Jongin mutters, but of course Lu Han heard him anyway and pouts.
Helping Yixing out with getting in contact with everyone else who was missing was something Lu Han did during the past days, but for some reason he just couldn’t get a hold of them.
“I don’t know, maybe they’ve changed their numbers since the last time we’ve seen them? You have to admit, that we haven’t been in contact with Yifan, Jongdae and Zitao for a while now, right?” Yixing says.
“That is true...oh,” comes Lu Han’s reply and he grabs his bag. “I might just have a hint right here.”
He pulls out one of his shiny objects (why he took them with him wherever he went was a mystery to Jongin) and to everyone’s surprise, it changes its colour to red every now and then. Lu Han smirks at that.
“I knew you couldn’t hide forever, Yifan,” he says and looks up to Yixing and Jongin, but they just look terribly confused at this turn of events.
“Well, I could explain, but we don’t really have the time for that, so here’s the short version. Basically, whenever Yifan is close, this starts changing its colour. Pretty useful, right?” Lu Han beams at them.
“I don’t even want to know how these things work or where you got them in the first place, but yes, this seems pretty useful to me. But it still doesn’t tell us his exact position, right?” Jongin says and eyes the object in Lu Han’s hand warily.
“Yeah, that’s the downside, but isn’t that the case for any great invention out there?”
“Why don’t you give it to Jongin and he can try to teleport? Maybe it’ll bring him straight to Yifan? Who knows, maybe it’s worth a try,” Yixing proposes and eyes the object as well.
“Good idea, Yixing. Do you want to try?” Lu Han asks Jongin, who just nods.
“This won’t do me any harm, right?” Jongin asks before he takes the object.
“It won’t. Unless you piss me off. Then I can’t guarantee for anything, dear Jongin,” Lu Han answers and smiles. “Just kidding by the way.”
Jongin then takes the object and teleports away, leaving Lu Han and Yixing behind.
~
Jongin reappears on a rooftop and raises his eyebrows. Out of all the places he could think of this would have been the last one he’d look for.
“Are you coming because Lu Han sent you?” an unfamiliar voice asks him and he goes to the direction it came from.
“You are Yifan then?” Jongin asks the one who lounges on a chair without a care in the world.
“That would be me. And who are you?” Yifan asks and raises an eyebrow himself.
“I’m Jongin and I’m here to ask you for your help...” he starts explaining (it starts to sound like a broken record to him, so he hopes the next time he won’t have to explain it again).
Yifan listens to his explanation and nods.
“Did that LSM person elaborate what this big threat was we had to fight against?” Yifan asks him when he’s done explaining.
“Not really,” Jongin admits.
“And you didn’t bother asking him before you accepted his task? You are a bit naive, aren’t you?”
Jongin doesn’t answer, and instead looks away. Yifan does have a point.
“Forget about it. Who else is missing from the twelve? Don’t tell me it’s Lu Han, he’s the last person I want to look for,” Yifan quickly changes the topic.
“No, it’s not Lu Han. But Yixing said something about a Jongdae and Zitao?” Jongin answers.
“Jongdae and Zitao, got it. I’ll come by your apartment in a day or so. Don’t wait for me, I won’t take long.”
And with that Yifan flies away, leaving Jongin alone on a rooftop. He shrugs and teleports home.
